The Veteran in a New Field by Winslow Homer

I have this story from a dealer in whose back room [Winslow] Homer occasionally visited. While he was there one day, another painter came in, one of those men who manufactured over and over the one picture that had been his best seller. He caught a glimpse of Homer and asked the dealer if he would not do him the honor of introducing him to the great man. When the dealer conveyed the request to Homer, the reply was: “Tell Mr. G— to go to hell.”
