My advice for aspiring writers is don’t do it unless you really have to. But if you do have to write, never show anybody anything as soon as you think it’s finished. A minute, an hour, a day after you give it to someone to read, you’ll be walking along and you’ll clap your hand to your forehead because something’s come to you—a mistake or a significant improvement. Be patient. Do several drafts with proper pauses in between.
