A musician seldom says: “I am going to compose a four-movement sonata and all four movements will have exactly the same rhythm and the same instruments.” It happens, but musicians are well aware that it’s quite the opposite: a composition’s life lies in surprises, expectations, and discoveries. It is essential in music, and I think it is in architecture as well.
