The habit of thinking of things in plastic and pictorial terms must have its influence upon the writer’s art, when you practise both as I do. First of all, I see! The first—and last—thing that I do is to use my eyes…The art of draughtsmanship is in the fullest sense a scientific study—it should help the writer of fiction.
